Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim Tablets Recalled Due to Contamination Risk

Amneal Pharmaceuticals has issued a nationwide recall of three lots of Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim Tablets, USP (400 mg/80 mg), due to the discovery of black spots on some tablets, linked to microbial contamination with Aspergillus, a type of fungus that can cause serious or life-threatening infections, especially in immunocompromised individuals.

All affected tablets are the 400 mg/80 mg dosage and have an expiration date of June 2027.
📦 Distribution Window:
These lots were distributed across the U.S. between December 4, 2024, and May 15, 2025, to wholesalers, pharmacies, clinics, and distributors. Tablets obtained before December 4, 2024, are not affected.

Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim is commonly used to treat:
Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Middle-ear infections in children
Pneumonia and sepsis
Traveler’s diarrhea
